Regular readers of this column will recall that it was not long ago that Philadelphia area players were in a bit of a scoring drought. Well apparently the rain dance has worked, because this week we saw a storm of scoring. Here’s the round up:

  • In Saturday’s match against the Crew, Chestnut Hill Academy and FC Delco alumni, and new Chicago Fire midfielder, Jeff Larentowicz put up his first tally of the season. With Chicago having a threatening-constantly-but can’t-seem-to-find-the-back-of-the-net kind of night, Larentowicz finally broke through in the 83rd minute when he headed home a flick-on from Austin Berry to notch the only goal in the match.
  • Also on Saturday, Union Home Grown Player and Harrisburg loanee Cris Hernandez showed why Philly took on the youngster when Harrisburg downed the Colorado Rapids Reserves 2-1. Hernandez scored the game’s opening goal in the second minute and provided the assist to fellow loanee Greg Jordan in the 64th minute, earning both a spot on  the USL PRO Team of the Week.
  • Hernandez wasn’t the only one scoring in USL PRO action over the weekend. Richmond Kickers forward and Hershey, PA native Jason Yeisley scored in the team’s 4-1 win over Rochester on Saturday, scoring a goal in the 66th minute.
  • Crossing the pond, the youngest member of the Union Home Grown Player contingent, Dresher, PA native Zach Pfeffer put up a goal for the Hoffenheim U19s in Sunday’s 5-0 win over TSV 1860 München.  Though Hoffenheim was rolling over 1860 all day, Pfeffer made an immediate impact on the game, coming in at the 60th minute and scoring in the 67th.
  • Finally, moving north to Sweden, Hammarby forward and Allentown, PA native Billy Schuler opened his account for the season. In his second game of the season (third for Hammarby), Schuler put the game out of reach for opponents Örebro SK in the 43rd minute of Sunday’s 2-1 win.
