Match reports, Gaddis & Califf news

If you read one match report, read Eli’s excellent recap.

If you read more than one, here are some good options: 700Level, CSNPhilly, MLSSoccer, SBI, PhillySoccerNews, the Examiner, the Inquirer, and Goal.

Second-round SuperDraft pick Ray Gaddis made a fine debut last night. More on Gaddis’ debut and Danny Califf’s absence from Dave Zeitlin.

SBNation points us to Ryan Bright’s tweet about PPL’s reaction to a Columbus dive: Covering MLS and a Columbus Crew player took a dive against the @PhilaUnion. Crowd chants loudly, “Sidney Crosby!”

Shea Salinas was something of a fan favorite during his short stint with the Philadelphia Union. And it’s safe to say Rafa Marquez is/should be considered enemy number one by… pretty much everyone. So if this video of Marquez fouling (uncalled) Shea Salinas then kicking the prone Earthquakes player as he lay on the ground doesn’t make you angry, well you must be a monk.

If that doesn’t get the steam coming out of your ears, how about the new Most Effective Play for Manchester United? Only days after Ashley Young dove in the box and Wayne Rooney converted the resulting penalty against QPR… Ashley Young dove in the box and Wayne Rooney converted the penalty against Aston Villa. A question for referees everywhere: Does anybody actually fall like that??

Elsewhere around the league, the Galaxy, Sounders, Chivas, Dallas, Kansas City and DC United were all winners while New York and San Jose played to an exciting 2-2 draw.

Our best game since last season. Gaddis looked great. Adu had is his best game in a Union uniform. We still need someone to kick the damn ball into the damn net during regular play…but beside that a fairly organized and well played game. If we can get 3 more points away @ Chivas we are back in the mix
