Player of the Week: Andrew Wenger

Philadelphia Union had the week off, but if they didn’t, you’d be hard-pressed to beat out a guy who scored his first career professional goal to give his team its first ever Major League Soccer win.

So naturally, Montreal rookie Andrew Wenger is PSP’s Philadelphia player of the week.

Wenger, a rookie from Lititz, Pa., scored what became the game-winner in a rivalry match vs. Toronto on Saturday. For more details and video of the goal, check out our Philadelphians Abroad round-up.

Wenger built his game growing up in Lancaster County, went on to play for Duke in college, spent a summer playing for Reading United in the USL PDL, and eventually became the first player picked in this year’s amateur draft. He has been coming off the bench for Montreal while still finishing his classwork at Duke, which means he’s bouncing back and forth Quebec and North Carolina between games.

In the honorable mention department, we have … no one. (Unless you count Kei Kamara and Sebastien Le Toux … yeah, didn’t think so.)
