Union v NE game postponed until September 7

The Philadelphia Union announced on Thursday evening that Sunday’s match against New England Revolution has been postponed due to expected extreme weather conditions as Hurricane Irene makes its way up the Atlantic coast.

The announcement on the Union’s website says, “The decision to postpone the game was made to ensure the safety of players and fans.”

The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 7 at 8pm. All season tickets, printed tickets and parking passes (Game 13) will be honored for the new match date.

“We expect that Hurricane Irene will likely cause hazardous travel and unplayable conditions throughout the Northeast,” said Nelson Rodriguez, Executive Vice President of Competition and Game Operations for the Union. “We appreciate our fans’ understanding of these decisions and the media’s assistance in communicating the message.”

  1. Safety first, obviously, but I cannot help but focus on the negatives with this rescheduling … Valdes will sit out versus RSL (away) instead of NER (home), and we’ll play 3 games in the span of 8 days (RSL away, NER home, POR home). At least those last 2 SHOULD give us 6 points …

  2. Whay can’t they switch the game to Saturday like the Phillies did?

  3. Meant WHY?
