Robbers use football to cover-up heist

Brazilian police suspect robbers waited until Sunday, the last day of the Brazilian football season, to pull off a daring robbery of a cash delivery firm. It is thought that the robbers rented a nearby house (posing as residents, even putting up a Christmas tree) and tunneled 490 feet to complete the caper in which 10 million reais ($5.8 million) was taken. The title race was the most competitive it has been in years and the country was rightly captivated by the final day of the season, allowing the robbers to take advantage of the situation.  As Rio de Janerio club Flamengo won the title, a security guard admitted to hearing loud noises, but wrote them off as fireworks from celebrating fans.

Flamengo won it’s first title in 17 seasons, edging out Sao Paulo and Internacional.
