Philadelphia Union opened their 2016 home season with an emphatic 3-0 win over a 10-man New England side despite missing two penalty kicks. CJ Sapong had a brace and Sebastien Le Toux finished off the scoring.
Both Philly and New England have yet to establish an identity this season. The Union will look to build on last week’s win as they aim for the first of (at least) ten home victories in 2016.
Blake will not miss any Union games while away on international duty, March 21-30.
The Union’s defensive organization gave them a chance to win on Saturday, and Chris Pontius did the rest.

The Union spoiled the homecoming party for Columbus Crew SC, pulling out a 2-1 win behind a brace from offseason acquisition Chris Pontius and more heroics from ascendant goalkeeper Andre Blake.
Philadelphia Union need to rebound against a talented Columbus side. Philly may not get a win, but they need to show more fight than they did last week.
Jim Curtin says Maurice Edu will be out a minimum of three months with a leg fracture. Tranquillo Barnetta’s status is “a week-to-week situation.”
The rest of the season won’t be this bad. But without some quickfire adjustments, next week could be.
