World Cup: Predictions

World Cup Predictions: Round one

Four years ago, PSP hosted a friendly competition to see who could best predict the results of the 2014 FIFA World Cup — a contest ultimately won by Kevin Kinkead, now of Crossing Broad.

We’re happy to bring that competition back for the 2018 World Cup.

Participating this year is most of the PSP staff — writers, photographers, and editors — along with some friends. They include Kevin, back to defend his title, along with Union beats Dave Zeitlin (MLSsoccer.com/The Athletic), Matt De George (Delco Times/The Athletic), Joe Tansey (ProSoccerUSA.com/Union Soccer Pod), and Greg Orlandini (KYW NewsRadio).

The contest will be pretty simple — each person gets one point for picking the correct result of each match.

We’ve also asked everyone to pick the champion before the tournament starts, with a five-point bonus at the end for a correct pick. Here’s who everyone chose:

Germany: Tim Jones, Staci Klemmer, Chris Sherman, Jeremy Lane, John Osborn, Kevin Kinkead, Joe Tansey, Mike Servedio, Earl Gardner, Paul Rudderow, Jim O’Leary (11)

Brazil: Chris Gibbons, Pete Mazzaccaro, Rashaad Jorden, Steve Whisler, Greg Orlandini, Eli Storch, Dan Walsh (7)

France: Joshua Trott, Dave Zeitlin, Ryan Rose, Matt De George (4)

Argentina: Nick Fishman, Ryan Griffith (2)

Spain: Peter Andrews (1)

Portugal: Gerald van Wilgen (1)

To access each person’s individual picks, you can click here. The charts below show the aggregate picks for each match — you can click on each image to make it bigger.

Good luck to everyone, and enjoy the tournament!

Hey, I was boring and picked Germany too.
