Philadelphia Union

The Union started a historically young backline, for better or worse.

The Union Academy is statistically one of the best in MLS.

With the ugly loss in Colorado in the rear window, let’s have a look ahead at this week’s opponent San Jose’s performance in Week 5.

Bethlehem Steel

More on Nashville’s first win of the season over the Steel.

MLS

ESPN+ – the streaming service that will replace MLS Live – will launch April 12.

Planet Futbol’s weekly league roundup.

Darwin Quintero has obviously never watched MLS before his transfer to Minnesota United.

USL

Indy Eleven are putting up big attendance numbers – and they want MLS to take notice. (As a former Hoosier, I am skeptical.)

NWSL

How did USWNTers fair in NWSL this weekend?

The NWSL is more competitive than ever.

  1. “Eleven fans” this and “Eleven fans” that. I understand the origin of the name, but when referencing how large the crowd was, they should probably use Indy fans rather than Eleven. I mean, we used to get more than 11 fans when I played rec soccer on Monday nights.

    • “Eleven” refers to a famous Indian Civil War regiment, the 11th Indian Volunteers whose battle honors include Shiloh, and Sheridan’s valley campaign in 1864, by memory without confirming. There were other famous campaigns in the west, but I am not remembering them at the moment.
      .
I agree the phraseology is confusing without further knowledge of our civil war in the west.

  2. AS the Daily Editor Steve Whisler has many, many jobs.
    .
Frequent readers already know that he adds editorial comments to the daily news round up links infrequently.
    .
Therefore, I will presume to add an editorial comment to the second link under the heading “Philadelphia Union,” to wit, “The Union Academy is statistically one of the best in MLS.”
    .
The analysis in the article is strongly worth reading.
    .
Furthermore the link to Top Drawer Soccer in the article provides interesting observations and opinions. To jump to the end of my own trail exploring through Top Drawer Soccer, They rank the Union’s u-18/19s the #5 team in the country, the U-16/17s #13, and the U-15s #3.
    .
If you have time and interest, I certainly found the article and the link worth the time invested in them.
