Alexi Lalas: “MLS fans start each season with a genuine belief, rooted in history, that their team has a chance to win it all.” Best response I can think of for that is: LOL.

On all those early season goals, I wondered on this page several weeks ago what the result would likely be of a league on a record buying spree of South American attacking talent coupled with a turn to homegrown and young defenses… I think we have our answer.

    • John P. O'Donnell Jr says:

It’s not just South American players who are scoring. A 17 year old American for the Red Bulls, 18 year old American for the Union & a 17 year old Canadian for the Whitecaps all have hit the back of the net too. I think MLS is now at the point where selling tickets to get people to games depends more on winning and less on European players with big names getting casuals to the stadium. They’ve created a base who supports the league now and not just soccer. The day a team wins because the bulk of the roster comes from the academy and not high priced signings of foreign talent is the next goal for the league. Watching the Portland vs. Red Bulls game was impressive considering that roster couldn’t get that result a decade ago. Seems like a lifetime ago that signing 33yo Tim Cahill was a coup for MLS.

  2. Good luck to the Rhino’s!!! I hope they can pull through this and get back on the field.

  3. The CCL matches are on Univision Deportes, not Univision. They can also be streamed on the go90 app.

  4. How about that fiasco with the Greek Super league? Someone really did bring a gun to a soccer match…

  5. looks like MLS and Liga MX is gonna be big news tomorrow here.
