News roundup: Hack wants back in MLS, Ayuk’s Sweden loan ends, Nagbe to Atlanta, King Pep

Philadelphia Union

LAFC left the Union alone in the expansion draft, and Eric Ayuk returns from Sweden loan. Did Ayuk get on his knees when he heard the news, like when he got red-carded in Union uniform?

Like Frank Yallop in 2013, Hack wants another crack at coaching in the MLS again.

Brotherly Game has a nice reaction to Earnie Stewart’s recent interview at FourFourTwo.

Speaking of Stewart, @MLSTransfers tweeted, “Heard whispers over the summer Ernie Stewart wasn’t so thrilled with the Union job.”

MLS

Atlanta showed Darlington Nagbe the money; and West Chester’s own Jeff Larentowicz resigned with The Five Stripes.

Word on the Taylor Twellman street is that the New York Cosmos’ Giovanni Savarese will coach the Portland Timbers.

  1. Hack? Terrible coach that didn’t have the guts to prevent hazing of players?

    .

    No thanks.

    • perhaps a terrible person for participating in the hazing, but I’d say a good youth / developmental coach who coached the Union like a youth squad, and I will never forgive him for starting inferior players ahead of Kleberson

  2. Glad Ayuk has returned, although the stats of his loan spell don’t lead me to believe he got a lot out of it (hopefully I’m wrong about that). It’s also very Union to announce a player “signing” we already had while other teams (obviously ATL, but also the rest of the league) are making legit moves.

When they announced the contract decisions early, I thought we’d be in the shuffle for early December acquisitions… alas Philadelphia Union…

  3. Brotherly Game’s article articulates nicely why I have not renewed after all these years. Rather spend the money on the DirecTV MLS package and see teams like Atlanta and LA compete and play exciting soccer.

    • It’s just more proof of what we all already know. This owner is in way over his head. There’s really no reason to actually support the team. At this point I’m just hoping for a quicker death of the franchise, rather than this prolonged torture of lies and promises that never come to fruition.

  4. One day after Stewart feeds 442 the usual yarn about building an academy and his club’s inability (or reluctance) to spend, Josh Sargent says the following in an interview: “When you look at MLS, you don’t see many young players getting minutes. But Weston and Christian are getting minutes. I don’t know how you can refuse that.” Indeed.

How is it that a club like ours, which doesn’t even bother to feign ambition for greater things, fail to get more minutes for young players? In a league with no relegation, in which goal differential doesn’t matter, why not give young players meaningful playing time? How is it that Najem can go out, not impress and be deemed “not ready” when 30-year-olds are trotted out, allowed to fail, and trusted “to play through it.” This is so wrong.

I can handle this club not getting better results, but I’d be a lot happier if we did more the pay lip service to the “vision.” Build a young squad and let them try. Enough with this nonsense about 20 – 22-year-olds not being ready. It’s just bullshit.

LAFC just spent $20,000,000 I believe if I read correctly aaaaannnndddd…..Union brought back Eric Ayuk.

  6. I believe that you meant that Larentowicz re-signed, not resigned. Kind of the opposite thing.
