The Union and Swansea City played to a PSP and CSNPhilly.

Post-game quotes.

The friendly gave a chance for the youth to shine.

The Union are looking to make moves, but it looks like Ilsinho and Alberg will be with the team at least through the end of the season.

Bruce Arena gave Bedoya high praise, as Bedoya returns home for the birth of his second child. Congrats Ale!

Bethlehem extended their unbeaten streak to 8 with a PSP.

The Union Academy earned some accolades from the US Soccer Development Academy.

A roundup of all the MLS vs. Not-MLS action.

Atlanta United beat FC Dallas 2-1 to claim the Development Academy championship.

It looks like the Jacksonville Armada finally have a new owner.

Around the globe

The USMNT beat Nicaragua 3-0 to comfortably advance in the Gold Cup. Bedoya and Pontius both started for the USMNT. Bedoya was named man of the match, while Pontius was lauded for his ability to win balls in the air but downgraded for failing to actually make anything happen. National life imitates club life?

Their next game will be Wednesday at 9PM EST at the Linc against El Salvador.

The USMNT has also made 6 changes to their roster, bringing in some of the more experienced vets they will need to win the tournament.

Is anyone actually going to the Gold Cup give that it overlaps the Union’s game Wednesday night?

      It’s brilliant…. MLS Brilliant.
      .
Not even in same locale to get attendance bump for both games ….or just make sense. So let’s watch in a 1/2 empty 50,000 seat stadium.
      .
US Soccer you make you so hard.

  2. Good to see Mo prepping for the inevitable. I don’t see how he could possibly get a contract at his current salary given he hasn’t seen playing time since the 2015 Open Cup final, if memory serves. Maybe that was the last time he’ll ever play a competitive match. Shame, really.

    • they said the same thing about gooch. mo will definitely get another shot if he wants it but he can’t ask for as much money

      • Exactly. If he wants to come back as a CB, making $100K, and he looks decent in camp, somebody might give him a shot. And they should. In fact, if/when Gooch wins Comeback Player of the Year, you can bet that will be on a lot of clubs’ minds.

So Kelyrn Rowe gets chased (after arguably being best player on field for event) in favor of Chris Pontius or Zardes staying. Looks to me like Brucey playing favorites overtly.
    .
Okay okay you can have your Gokd Cup but if Zardes and Pontius get WCQ call ups over Rowe….

    • Adam Schorr says:

Looks to me like Brucey winning and winning a lot. You knew what Arena was bringing. Pragmatism above all else. We’ll see Rowe again.

    • I would say exactly the opposite. I think Arena just put a big fat check mark next to Rowe’s name for this tourney. But it’s not so clear whether Pontius or Zardes can bring anything to the squad. In other words, those two are still auditioning; Rowe has already passed his audition.

      • el Pachyderm says:

Hmm… could be. I hope you are right cause WTF otherwise.

      • this description is the only thing that would make any sense. bruce arena is a good coach and he is not prone to jurgenesque tendencies toward stupid head games and totally baffling nonsense decisions

      • Totally agree with the check marks and passing grade for Rowe. And that Pontius and Zardes are still on trial.

  4. John P. O'Donnell Jr says:

This tournament has been kind of boring overall but I think the one bright spot has been Canada. Although Alphonso Davies has looked dangerous at times and youthful at others, he makes it hard to take your eyes off him when he’s in the game. Let’s see if he can raise his game as they enter the knockout stage.
