Philadelphia Union

The Union yet again failed to put together a full 90 minute performance, and their last gasp comeback attempt met the PSP, CSNPhilly, BrotherlyGame, Section215, PattisonAve, and SBI. Next week is international play, so the Union will next have the opportunity to put their first tick in the win column at RFK Stadium on April 1 against DCU, who are struggling badly. It means that it will officially be at least 6 full months since the Union’s last win.

The Union are tied for 8th in the Eastern Conference with Montreal Impact, with 2 points in 3 games. After 3 games last season, the Union had 6 points.

Chuck Booth takes aim at Bedoya and Medunjanin, even suggesting the latter should be benched if he can’t up his defensive work-rate.

Kinkead did a Rob Elder’s article about building from within.

CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani had some interesting comments about the future of CONCACAF. He is looking to expand the Gold Cup to 16 teams and to start a Nations League, both apparently to give Central American and Caribbean teams more games and more opportunities.

Highlight of the day

Has anyone noticed that playing for the Union and getting called into the USMNT is a curse? Jack Mac can’t start anymore. Maurice Edu came here to improve his chances and played one year out of position and has been injured since. And the three current players who got called into camp seem to have a drop in form. Hmm

    • Jim O'Leary says:

Pontius has had a drop in form? I’m not saying he’s been great, but I wouldn’t say he’s been bad either.

  2. the highlight of of the day was the lead-up to Jordan Morris’ goal last night. (66′)

That goal was awesome… all around. Especially the build up.

And agreed… it’s amazing what you can do with true CAM and a few skilled players. Not saying the Union are trash, but they are still multiple steps behind several clubs in MLS
