They’ve been here since before Philly got an MLS team, and they are celebrating their tenth year. They are the Sons of Ben, the Union’s largest supporters group.

To commemorate the anniversary, longtime member of the SoBs, former Vice President Jeffrey Mitchell, joins KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Mike Servedio on the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show.

Jeff has worn several hats for the supporters group, including running their social media for several years. He talks about all the behind the scenes work the members do before game and also also discusses some of the things coming up for the Sons of Ben in 2017.

Then, Greg and Mike talk about Philadelphia Union’s selections in the latest MLS SuperDraft. On Friday, the Union moved up in the second round to take Marcus Epps, a winger from the University of South Florida. Also on Friday they took Clemson defender and UK-native Aaron Jones. In Rounds Three and Four of the draft on Tuesday, the Union selected Canadian-born forward Chris Nanco (Syracuse), English-born defender/defensive midfielder Jack Elliott (West Virginia), and Spanish-born forward Santi Moar (Pfeiffer University).

  1. With the surprise that Rosenberry had not gotten a look with youth US team – remember, he was a midfielder until college.

  2. Love it. Fly-wheel in motion… a “slow, slow train comin’… comin’ round the bend.”
