It’s official: Erick “Cubo” Torres has joined Houston Dynamo as a Designated Player on what is reportedly a five year deal. The announcement on the Dynamo website notes, “As part of the transfer agreement, Torres will spend up to six months on loan with Chivas de Guadalajara for the 2015 Liga MX Torneo Clausura, which begins Jan. 9.”

MLSsoccer.com reports, “Following the expiration of his loan deal at the end of the 2014 season, MLS came to an agreement to acquire Torres on a permanent basis from Chivas Guadalajara. The league then approached all 20 MLS clubs with the financial terms and the Dynamo were the only team interested in Torres that was also ready to meet the transfer arrangements and player salary.” Why only one taker? Probably because Torres cost, according to reports, somewhere between $7 million and $7.5 million. More from Houston Chronicle (1), Dynamo Theory, Orange in the Oven, MLSsoccer.com, ESPN, Fox SportsSoccer America, and ProSoccerTalk.
