KYW Philly Soccer Show: Union front office hot stove talk

The Philadelphia Union may not be in the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t some hot-stove soccer talk on the KYW Philly Soccer Show.

In the latest episode, KYW’s Greg Orlandini and SP‘s Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined CBS3’s Kevin Kinkead to discuss some new moves in the Union’s front office.

Team owner Jay Sugarman made a rare appearance earlier this month at a press conference announcing former Manchester United assistant coach René Meulensteen as consultant for the team in which Sugarman described the team’s strategic vision moving forward over the next five years.

Greg, Eli, and Kevin also discusses possible player moves ahead of the Expansion Draft in December and January’s SuperDraft in Philadelphia.

  1. Maybe my imagination is getting the better of me, but I’m wondering if Meulensteen is an insurance policy for Curtin if he pulls a Hackworth and loses a bunch of matches in ’15. With Meulensteen, the Union could have an interim coach waiting in the wings. . . .

  2. Good stuff! Especially the discussion that the Union’s business model is nothing new, and the overall review of the press conference!

  3. Another great program gentlemen! The only ones the Union are fooling are themselves. Sugarman needs to come on and let you guys ask the same questions as you do on the show. I would love for it to be in a public townmeeting setting with a fan Q and A at the end.
