The fourth annual River Cup was played at PPL Park on Saturday. The game ended tied at 1-1 after regulation time, with the Union front office scoring in the 78th minute before the Sons of Ben equalized from the penalty spot in the final minute to force a penalty kick shootout. In the end, the Union front office prevailed 3-1 on penalty kicks to secure their third River Cup title. PSP photographer Earl Gardner was on hand for the game. Here’s a look at what he saw.

The Union FO overcame a hostile environment with most of the fans rooting for the SOB’s. Plus the FO were without 3 of their top players who were away on club duty (Curtain, Albright, Sorber). Fortunately, the SOB’s forgot the first rule of the offside trap…It doesn’t work when your defenders are 10 yards deep on the opposite side of the field and the forward is closer to the center line than they are!
The SOBs kits are awesome. They may have lost the match but they won the best uni contest.
Except that it felt like it was 110 degrees on the field! Agreed though…and I prefer Yards sponsorship to Bimbo personally.
