Philadelphia Union

Tim Ream’s giveaway to Danny Mwanga that resulted in the Roger Torres game winning goal when New York played the Union at PPL in April has been named the Gaffe of the Year by MLSsoccer.com. Yeah, it was pretty gaffable.

An AP report at ESPN begins, “Major League Soccer player Freddy Adu will train with Rayo Vallecano and may join the Spanish club.”

In Sky Sports report on Freddy Adu’s trianing stint in Spain, his manager, Richard Motzkin, says, “[The] Union have been sympathetic and they understand it’s a great opportunity for him to train in Spain this winter, where he will gain experience.”

Adu’s time with the USMNT at the Gold Cup is named “Cameo of the Year” by Sporting News.

Zac MacMath says of the possibility of playing for the US at the 2012 Olympics, “It would mean everything to me personally and to my family. Watching the Olympics every four years with my family, it’s something every kid dreams about. Especially because it’s in London, where some of the best players in the world play, it would mean everything for me to be a part of that.”

Philadelphia Independence

Veronica Bouquete has agreed to terms with the Independence. “I will stay in Philadelphia,” said the league MVP, “although Western New York Flash have made me an almost irresistible offer, of almost double. In Philadelphia, they have made an effort and have bettered my salary, although not a large increase, but my decision is dominated by the sport not economics.” Welcome news, indeed.

All White Kit has the Independence taking forward Sarah Hagen as its first pick in its 2012 WPS Mock Draft.

MLS

The Guardian reports that Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thierry Henry has agreed to return to Arsenal for a two-month loan. Wenger says an insurance agreement is all that is needed for the loan to be finalized. The Guardian notes, “Henry could feature in seven Premier League games, including the matches against Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as FA Cup ties and the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League last-16 game against Milan.”

Bloomberg is also reporting that the loan will happen “if the Gunners can reach an insurance agreement with his U.S. soccer team.”

The Guardian writes that Henry is less egocentric now than when he left Arsenal in 2007.

MLS has announced five players—Sam Garza (F, UC Santa Barbara/Denver), Chandler Hoffman (F, UCLA), Darren Mattocks (F, Akron), Kelyn Rowe (M, UCLA) and Andrew Wenger (F, Duke)— for the 2012 Generation adidas class. Four Collegiate Senior signings—Tony Cascio (M, Connecticut), Nick DeLeon (M/F, Louisville/UNLV), Luis Silva (M, UC Santa Barbara) and Casey Townsend (F, Maryland)—were also announced.

That Frank Lampard will take David Beckham’s place at LA galaxy is among the five offseason predictions by MLSsoccer.com’s the Throw In.

Looking at various recent personnel issues at the Energy Drinks, Capitalnewyork.com says of Thierry Henry, “Fans had better hope he really, really likes living here. Because it’s hard to imagine he’s going to stick around much longer for the soccer.”

While talk of a possible move by Tim Ream to Bolton continues, here’s a look at the various requirements that exit in order to get a work permit.
