Goos on the loose, Coudet signs, summer tourney news

Eduardo Coudet has signed with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers. From the Union to the Strikers? Sounds like Coudet is labor-friendly.

Are temporary stadiums in MLS in the near future?

Goal.com Editor’s Roundtable discussion of the USA-Argentina match. Tim Chandler turned a lot of heads.

Jeff Agoos has been named Technical Director of MLS. What a good move by the league. The front office was suffering from a major lack of ponytail.

Shin Guardian’s USA v. Paraguay preview. It’s extensive, it’s informative, and you can tell Bob Bradley didn’t write it because there aren’t three defensive paragraphs lined up together in the middle.

Former Sounder Blaise Nkufo announces retirement. Nkufo left camp very suddenly just before the season started and has been sort of AWOL since.

MLS announced a World Football Challenge running from July 14 through early August this summer. From SBI: “Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Club America, Chivas Guadalajara and Juventus are all being lined up to take part in the eight-team competition, which will consist of a round-robin two-game format. A second Italian club is expected to round out the eight-team field, with Inter Milan and Napoli identified as targets.” Wow! Manchester United again! It’s great because they’re never on TV.

The NASL logo is new and improved! And now the same colors as the EPL logo! Coincidence, I’m sure. NASL also announced a new commissioner named David Downs, a man who I can’t help thinking belongs in British parliament.

William Gallas signs a new deal with Tottenham. It’s a two year deal. That’s right, Spurs fans. You gave an old French defender that nobody else wants a two-year extension! I bet Gallas and Ledley King are going to become bestest friendses doing long-term injury rehab together. In even crazier Spurs news, Rafa van der Vaart says Redknapp is a lot like Mourinho. “and you can tell Bob Bradley didn’t write it because there aren’t three defensive paragraphs lined up together in the middle.” Priceless.

  2. Can someone please explain to me why most in the US Soccer blogosphere bag on Bob Bradley? From my POV, his tenure with the USMNT has been mostly successful. A Gold Cup in 2007, a run to the Confederations Cup Final that saw the US dump FIFA #1 Spain out of the tournament, an unspectacular but successful WC Qualifying campaign followed up by topping our group in SA2010. Sure the loss to Ghana hurt, but the USMNT has continued to improve under Bradley. My question would be who could the US Soccer Fed realistically tip to lead Sam’s Army better than Bradley has?
