Portsmouth sack Paul Hart
England, English Premier League — By Mike Servedio on November 24, 2009 at 7:24 pmPremier League bottom feeders Portsmouth have sacked manager Paul Hart. After missing out on 3 deserved points at Stoke on the weekend, Hart will not be in charge for this weeks visit from champions Manchester United. Former Chelsea coach, and current director of football at Portsmouth Avram Grant, is the odds on favorite for taking on the job. Grant famously took over Chelsea when Jose Mourinho was sacked and led the London club to 2nd place in the Premiership and runners up in the Champions League.
Portsmouth have struggled mightily this year, just two seasons removed from winning the FA Cup. In August, a bid from UAE buisnessman Sulaiman Al Fahim fell through and the team was later purchased by Saudi Ali al-Faraj. Pompey have also seen players Peter Crouch, Sylvain Distin, Niko Kranjcar, and Glen Johnson leave in the past year. First team coaches Paul Groves and Ian Woan will lead the team temporarily.
